Education

Through education opportunities, we develop our faith, growing deeper in our relationship with God.  In order to be disciples of Jesus Christ, we study scripture, the tradition of the church, and contemporary resources, learning as we go how to apply our faith to our daily lives.

At Washington Street UMC, we seek to provide ample opportunities for faith-development: through Sunday School classes for all ages, weekly Bible studies, and seasonal studies all open to any interested indivduals.

Please join us for one of these opportunities.  Or, if you have an idea for an educational ministry you would like to see, please let us know.  Together with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we will unite our heads and hearts as we develop into mature disciples of Jesus Christ.

Sunday School

Adult Sunday School: "Surprised by Hope: Rethinking Heaven, the Resurrection, and the Mission of the Church"

During the Easter season, we are reminded of the awesome power of God to overcome even the most desperate of circumstances.  That power is symbolized for us in the resurrection of Christ and also in our understanding of heaven.

Typically, we think of the promise of heaven as something off in the distant future, but the promised reality is far greater: a new heaven and a new earth, a whole new creation.  Once we grasp such a biblical vision of God’s future, then, it can transform our understanding of life in the present.

Surprised by Hope is a six-week DVD study based on the book by the same name written by N.T. Wright.  Please join us for this study as we consider some of the most fundamental questions of our Christian faith.  We will begin on Sunday, April 19 at 9:00 am.

One Room Sunday School Class

This class is for children and youth of all ages, and we meet every Sunday at 10:30 am.  Our current curriculum is the "Live B.I.G." series.  Please join us!

DISCIPLE is a program of disciplined Bible study aimed and developing strong local churches and committed and transformed disciples.  Through the course of the study, persons are strengthened in their faith and guided into service and ministry in the world through the intentional study of God's word.

The United Methodist Churches of Tiffin began with the Old Testament survey this October, continuing with weekly classes for a total of 17 weeks.  Then, in the fall of 2010, we will continue with another 17 weeks devoted to studying the scriptures of the New Testament.

Classes begin on Tuesday, October 6, and will meet weekly during October, November, January, and February.  The classes will be facilitated by Rev. Donna Van Trees, Rev. Barbara Silversmith, and Pastor Nathan.
